Hub boys track team qualify for state in four events

HANOVER — It was a historic night for the Rochelle Hubs boys track team on Friday at the Hanover Class 2A Sectional. Rochelle qualified for the IHSA State Track Meet in four different events and ended up fifth overall as a team with 54 points in the 12-team field. Colfay Pointer was at the top of his game, taking first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.22, while also running running anchor for the first place 4x400 meter relay team and the second place 4x800 meter relay team. Donivyn Harms also turned in a terrific performance at the sectional, running lead-off on both the afformentioned state qualifying relay teams and taking third place in the 400 meter dash just behind Pointer with a time of 51.52. Harms, Matthew Drendel, Xavier Rincon and Pointer ran the top time in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:22.75 and set a new RTHS school record as well. Harms, Drendel, Julian Hernandez and Pointer came in second place in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 8:07.88. The relay foursome of Justin Richmond, Rincon, Tyler Ryan and Jake Wyatt not only qualified for the state meet in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:30.85, but they also broke an RTHS school record in the process. The same foursome just missed qualifying for state in the 4 x 100 meter relay by .5 seconds with a time of 43.86.
